The one where we talk about fitness and stress

August 2021

Hey there everyone, we hope that you and your loved one are all well!

It’s august which means that we have two new skaters of the week to celebrate- Clara and Shaimaa! Both ladies are amazing assets to our team and always motivating and hyping our team mates.

This month we want to focus fitness and it’s importance in stress relief. We all have very busy lives with work, university, coming to practice and all sorts of other commitments so it’s no doubt that we can feel stressed, anxious and overwhelmed. You hear it all time that exercise is good for you and of course it goes without saying that. fitness and regular exercise do wonders for our physical and mental well-being as well as increase overall health and sense of well-being, which helps you to have a bounce in every step. However, the mental aspect of exercise is often overlooked especially in our society.

Now, this doesn’t mean you have to be doing these crazy workouts and running for long periods of time, what it means is that having short term plans that become long term will help you become the best version of yourself. As we always say, it’s all about the small habits you create for yourself that become part a natural part of your daily routine.

Physically, exercise allows our brain to produce these feel-good hormones called endorphins which help to reduce stress (as less cortisol is released), stimulate relaxation, feel more pleasure and less pain, so it makes you feel better. This coupled with greater release of our happy hormones dopamine and serotonin means that you’re overall happier and have that feel-good factor.

As often with sports such as figure skating, our team and the team building exercises that we do increase the amount of social interaction we have with each other, which is a great mood booster and helps decrease the feeling of loneliness, especially after the long stressful periods of the pandemic, this is exactly what you and I all need to keep ourselves in check.

We hope that this blog has helped you and possibly a friend too. Let us know if you have any further questions and of course any future blog ideas, you are more than welcome to share.

From all of us at Figure Skating Egypt, we thank you for your continued support and as always, you can find out more about joining our team via our FAQs page on our website or by directly contacting our coach Captain Ahmad Saad.
